Sports : West Ham Targets Odemwingie

West Ham has entered the chase
 for Osaze Odemwingie as coach
 Sam Allardyce searches for more
 firepower upfront ahead of the
 2013/14 season.

It is understood that the West Brom striker’s move to Dubai side Al Nasr fell through, after the Baggies failed to reach back at the club, who had asked to be informed of the acceptable fee before Tuesday- since their £850,000 bid was rejected.

The deadline has now passed. Allardyce, who is searching for a strike partner for £15m summer signing Andy Carroll, is keen on unsettled Odemwingie should he fail to land over £6m rated Rickie Lambert from Southampton or QPR’s Loic Remy.

With one year left in his current contract and having being told he does not feature in manager Steve Clark’s plans for next season, West Brom has slapped a £2m price tag on the forward, less than half the initial £4.5m asking price.

Newly promoted Crystal Palace had failed to meet West Brom’s evaluation for the Nigeria international, who was excluded from Baggies’ pre-season tour and now trains with the reserves.

This leaves Fulham and West Ham the remaining suitors for Odemwingie, as ‘The Cottagers’ had earlier disclosed interest.

The former Lokomotiv Moscow striker has scored 31 goals in 90 appearances for the West Midlands club since his arrival in August 2010.
